It runs Windows 11 with Copilot+ PC features designed for AI productivity.

Key features explained
- A premium performance laptop: This Surface Laptop is positioned as a versatile machine ready for work, study, and creative projects. Its hardware is built to support heavy multitasking, such as running multiple browser tabs, video calls, office applications, and AI tools simultaneously without slowdowns. This makes it suitable for users who need reliability and speed throughout busy days and large projects.
- With AI built in: The dedicated AI chip (Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Elite with an 80 TOPS NPU) enables on-device AI features through Windows 11 Copilot+. This means you can prompt, create, and automate tasks more efficiently, potentially boosting productivity for those who rely on AI-powered workflows.
- A 13.8″ touchscreen you’ll actually use: The PixelSense touchscreen offers sharp colors, real detail, and smooth 120Hz scrolling. The ability to tap, scroll, and pinch to zoom adds convenience for streaming, editing photos, or daily work. The LCD display is designed for both clarity and responsiveness, making interaction natural and enjoyable.
- 20 hours of battery (leave the charger): The laptop is listed with up to 20 hours of video playback on a single charge. This level of battery life can support a full day of work or study away from a charger, ideal for travel, long meetings, or classes.
- The ports you need: Two USB-C / USB4 ports enable fast charging, large file transfers, and support for up to three 4K monitors for a full desktop experience. Wi-Fi 7 is included for high-speed, reliable wireless connectivity.
- Two display sizes, your choice: While this review covers the 13.8-inch model (weighing just 3 lbs/1.36 kg and offering up to 20 hours of battery), the Surface Laptop is also available in a larger 15-inch version for those who need more screen real estate.
- Four colors to match your style: Choose from Black, Platinum, Dune, or Jade finishes (this listing is for Black). The chassis is crafted from premium anodized aluminum for a high-quality look and feel.
- Add Microsoft 365 Personal: For users who need the full suite of Office apps, Copilot features, and extra cloud storage, Microsoft 365 Personal is available separately.

Who should buy it and who should look elsewhere
The Microsoft Surface Laptop (2026) 13.8-inch edition is ideal for professionals, students, and creatives who value a blend of portability, performance, and cutting-edge AI features. If your work involves multitasking across productivity apps, video conferencing, creative editing, or leveraging AI tools, this model is well-suited to those needs. Its lightweight design and long battery life make it especially appealing for those who are frequently on the move.
However, if you require a dedicated graphics card for advanced gaming, 3D modeling, or intensive graphics workloads, you may want to consider other options with discrete GPUs. For readers focused on professional workstation capabilities, it may be helpful to compare with models like the Lenovo ThinkPad P16 Gen 2 Mobile Workstation.

The Microsoft Surface Laptop (2026) 13.8-inch model stands out for its combination of premium build, robust performance, advanced AI integration, and impressive portability. Its feature set is well-targeted to modern productivity, creative use, and seamless multitasking, with thoughtful additions like a high-refresh touchscreen and long battery life. While it may not be the right fit for those needing convertible functionality or discrete graphics, it is a strong contender in its class for anyone seeking a capable, forward-looking Windows laptop. For the listed price, it offers substantial value for users who prioritize performance, portability, and a premium experience.
